About the client

České dráhy, a. s. (Czech Railways, hereinafter ČD) is a company with almost two hundred years of tradition in railway transport in Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. The purpose of ČD is providing of modern services in the areas of passenger and cargo transport, logistics, and IT. With more than 20 000 employees, ČD Group is one of the most important employers on the Czech labor market.

Initial situation

The repair services at ČD have a history dating back to the very beginnings of the railway in Czechia. From the original workshops, ČD have progressed to new maintenance centers which service hundreds of vehicles every year. The company invests not only in new vehicles, but also in the education of its employees and their equipment which enables it to keep up with modern trends in the maintenance of the new vehicles. The quality of repairs is one of the key factors in gaining the trust of the passengers in Czech Railways. For this reason, ČD have decided to try out the augmented reality technology and smart glasses in the maintenance of their rolling stock.

POCKET VIRTUALITY a. s. won a tender (sectoral public procurement) among several tenderers with its Lumnio solution running on smart glasses, mobile devices with Android, and laptops.

What solution did we propose to the client?

We supplied the client with Lumnio licenses for 17 users, RealWear smart glasses, laptops, internet connection and other accessories according to the conditions of the tender. The project included installation, user training, and service & technical support.

How does our solution benefit the client?

The main aims of the project were:

  • To provide remote support during physical servicing of railway rolling stock​.
  • ​To ensure voice and video connection with the possbility of effective AR technology utilization.
  • ​To ensure that the audio and video recording of the performed service intervention, including virtual graphic intervention, can be saved and used later.
