2nd annual Smart Industry conference report

Robert Paskovský

Two days filled with inspiration and modern technologies. This is what this year’s manufacturing conference Smart Industry looked like. It took place on October 23–24 at Palác Pardubice.

The first conference day started with an opening speech by David Chour, COO of the Czechoslovak Group, who described recent challenges for the Czech industry. Economist Jiří Rusnok followed up on the topic with his presentation on global trends influencing the world economy.

The morning program continued with a series of lectures on topics of digitization, company culture, and change management, which were presented by analyst Jan Burian, Václav Lipowski from Wienerberger and Filip Černý from Kogi.

After the morning lectures, the event participants had a chance to visit the conference partners’ stands, where they could try out state-of-the-art technological innovations—from smart glasess to virtual reality and modern software.

The afternoon lectures were focused on topics like cybersecurity, VR, or 3D environment modelling—and of course, the visitors could also enjoy the case study presentation of Lumnio and VESKOM. During the afternoon, the attendees discovered how to use smart glasses, AR, and virtual reality in employee training and how to provide remote support to the technicians in the field. The audience was also captivated by the lecture of Lukáš Altman Kousal from Škoda Auto a.s., who explained how to use a digital twin of a company’s building for logistical process improvement.

In addition, Thursday’s program was complemented by a panel discussion on current news and challenges that companies solve in their everyday operation. At the end of the day, the guests experienced an informal evening program with networking and concert of Horkýže Slíže band.

The second conference day revolved around factory tours in modern plants of Wienerberger, RETIA, and Eldis Pardubice. There, the visitors could see showcases of Industry 4.0 in practice, e.g., a construction robot and other newest technologies.

Lumnio is a great application using augmented reality and artificial intelligence to increase the productivity of service and maintenance staff. My job is to make sure that as many companies as possible can see this.
